In a significant milestone, Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam has been promoted to the rank of Professor of Mechatronics Engineering, making him the first-ever professor among serving personnel in the history of the Nigerian Army.
The announcement was made by Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur, the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.
The promotion was officially ratified during the NDA Council Meeting in September and became effective from October 1, 2023. According to the Registrar, this decision reflects the council’s confidence in and recognition of Professor Imam’s valuable contributions to the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Academy.
The Registrar further highlighted that Imam’s exemplary services and commitment to upholding the standards of excellence in his field were key factors in his promotion. He emphasized that this recognition not only honors Professor Imam but also underscores the Nigerian Defence Academy’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions within its academic community.
