The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that a backlog of 60,000 passports has been successfully cleared within a span of four working days.
This revelation was made by the Minister during a meeting with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Beta Edu, earlier in the day. The statement was issued by the Media Adviser to the Minister, Babatunde Alao, on Tuesday.
Tunji-Ojo affirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to diligently address the challenges facing the country, emphasizing their continuous efforts in this regard.
“As of this morning, I can tell you that about 60,000 passport backlogs have been cleared, especially 59,906.
“On Wednesday, September 6, when I gave the two-week ultimatum, we had over 200,000 backlogs. We have recorded progress, and I keep my word that those backlogs must be cleared”, he said.
Vistanaij Media previously reported that the Minister issued a directive last Thursday, instructing the Nigeria Immigration Service to expedite the processing of all pending passport applications.
