Hajiya Fatima Bago, the wife of Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, has urged for collective efforts to put an end to all forms of violence and discrimination against women.
She made this call during a two-day training session on etiquette protocol, security, and empowerment for female political office holders in Niger State, held in Minna on Friday.
The event, organized by Mrs. Bago in collaboration with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women and Affirmative Action, Mrs. Mary Berje, aimed to address the issue of gender-based violence and empower women to live without fear.
Mrs. Bago emphasized the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for women to thrive and called for unity in standing against violence and discrimination targeting women. She highlighted that affirmative action plays a vital role in bridging gender disparities and ensuring women’s representation in governance.
Mrs. Bago encouraged women to live with integrity and set high ethical standards for themselves and future generations. She emphasized the critical role women play in reshaping narratives on a global scale and stressed that their involvement in governance is not just an option but a necessity for societal growth and development.
Additionally, Mrs. Bago advised women to explore opportunities in small and medium enterprises, leverage the vast arable land in the state, and tap into the agricultural value chain as part of the new Niger agenda.
Mrs. Mary Berje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affirmative Action, also urged women in political positions to justify the confidence placed in them by the governor.
