The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the interception of a consignment of 1,340 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.

The consignment was being transported from Ogbese in Ondo state to Odukpani in Cross River. The Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.

According to Mr. Babafemi, the cannabis was being transported in a truck belonging to the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and was heading to Okurikang Okoyong in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River. He also stated that the movement was monitored for three weeks based on credible intelligence received by the agency. Upon its arrival, 130 bags of cannabis were seized by NDLEA.

In addition to the 1,340 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa that was seized, the NDLEA also impounded 13 motorcycles that were hired by the drug cartel to transport the consignment deep into the Odukpani forest. Mr. Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, made these announcements in a statement issued on Sunday.

In Kano, four individuals were arrested in connection with the possession of 229 blocks of skunk weighing 131.1kgs. These individuals, Ado Shuaibu, Yahaya Shuaibu, Mamman Sani, and Umar Musa Yakubu, were all taken into custody by NDLEA. Musa was arrested on Tuesday, February 7th, in Tumfafi village, Kano, while Ado, Yahaya, and Mamman were nabbed on Saturday, February 11th, in Garin Balarabe, Maigatari, Jigawa state.

Additionally, another suspect, Aisha Muhammad, was arrested in the Koki area of Kano with 17kgs of cannabis. Mr. Babafemi also revealed that four members of a syndicate that used dispatch motorcycles to distribute illicit drugs in the Lekki area of Lagos were arrested on Sunday, February 5th.

“They include: Tijani Hakeem; Eric Maku; Ahmed Jubril and Adobi Chris.

“At the time of their arrest, 1.88kgs of Loud and assorted paraphernalia were recovered from them,” he said.

According to Babafemi, the NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, praised the officers, both men and women, for their dedication and professionalism in the fight against illicit drugs in Nigeria.

Marwa stated that the agency will remain steadfast in its efforts to target anyone or any group involved in criminal drug trade, without fear or favor. He encouraged all NDLEA officers throughout the country to persist in the pursuit of the agency’s overall goal.
