Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has expressed the National Assembly‘s intention to partner with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in developing legislation that will contribute to the advancement of the manufacturing sector.

Akpabio made this announcement during the opening ceremony of the 2023 National Engineering Conference held in Abuja. The conference focused on the theme of “Re-engineering the Manufacturing Sector for Competitiveness and Enhanced Economic Growth.”

Recognizing the significance of infrastructure development for a thriving manufacturing industry, Akpabio emphasized the need for well-crafted legislation and regulations to drive growth. He delegated Mr. Ike Ugwuegede to represent him at the event.

Akpabio highlighted the National Assembly’s call for collaboration between the NSE and the relevant House and Senate Committees to expedite the reengineering of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. This collaboration aims to streamline democratic processes, reduce bureaucratic red tape, and create incentives for local production and entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, Akpabio emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable practices, fostering the development of local content, and protecting intellectual property rights through the implementation of favorable policies.

By fostering this partnership between the National Assembly and the NSE, the goal is to create an enabling environment that supports the growth and competitiveness of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria.
