Renowned British actor Sir Michael Gambon, famous for his role as Professor Albus Dumbledore in six of the Harry Potter movies, has passed away at the age of 82 after a peaceful hospital stay due to pneumonia.
The sad news was announced today through a statement by his wife Lady Gambon and son Fergus Gambon, as reported by publicist Clair Dobbs in the Daily Mail.
In addition to his iconic portrayal of Dumbledore, Sir Michael also graced the screen in the film Fantastic Mr Fox.
The statement read, “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.
Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.
We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”
