On Thursday, the controversial socialite and associate of singer Azeez Fashola, commonly known as Naira Marley, named Samson Erinfolami Balogun, also known as Sam Larry, was publicly disowned.
This development follows the emergence of an online petition by the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, in which he expressed concerns for his safety and sought police protection from Sam Larry and others.
Furthermore, a circulating video captured an incident during a music video shoot where Mohbad and Zlatan Ibile were present. In the footage, Sam Larry and a group of individuals allegedly targeted the late singer, resulting in an assault.
In response, Mohbad and Zlatan managed to protect the late singer, preventing further aggression from Sam Larry and his companions.
The surfaced petition, dated June 25, 2023, implored the Nigeria Police Force to ensure Mohbad’s safety by taking action against Sam Larry and his team.
While being assaulted, the individuals involved in the incident claimed to be affiliated with Oba Elegushi and expressed their intention to harm him for reasons best known to them
However, in a statement released on Thursday, the Elegushi royal family refuted the claim and clarified their position regarding Sam Larry and his associates.
The family explicitly stated that Samson Balogun is not affiliated with the royal family in any way, nor does he hold any official role or employment within the family or in service to the king.
The statement read, “The Elegushi Royal Family of Eti-Osa wishes to put on record the misinformation on the media space involving Sanmson Erinfolami Balogun (AKA Sam Larry).
“Samson Balogun is not a member of the royal family and does not work for the royal family or king in any capacity. Like other celebrities, politicians, religious and community leaders, he visits the place to pay homage and to the king and seek royal blessings just like other members of the public.
“While extending our condolences to the family and friends of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba (known as Mohbad), we would like to like to add our voice to the calls for a thorough investigation into circumstances surrounding his death with a view to unraveling any foul play.
“We ask our friends in the media to be mindful of the sensitivity of the issue and desist from spreading falsehood that may jeopardise this investigation.”
