The Katsina State Government has unveiled its proposed budget for the year 2024, amounting to N454.3 billion, with a strong emphasis on water resources and education as key priorities.

During a press briefing held at the Old Katsina Government House, Commissioner Bello H. Kagara of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning presented the detailed breakdown of the 2024 budget, titled “Building Your Future.”

Kagara highlighted a significant increase in the 2024 budget compared to the previous year, with a total of N153,675,604,150.96, representing a notable 51.11% surge.

In terms of funding allocation, water resources and education emerged as the top sectors, receiving N67,161,802,447.39 (20.35%) and N66,422,889,400.21 (20.13%) respectively. The works sector followed closely as the third priority, with an allocation of N53,484,733,251.59 (16%).

Health and environment also received substantial attention, with allocations of N38,326,421,172.23 (11.62%) and N37,700,116,210.24 (11.43%) respectively, indicating the government’s commitment to these critical areas.

However, the agricultural sector found itself at the bottom of the priority list, with a capital spending allocation of N20,513,909,753.71 (6.21%) of the total budget.

Other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) collectively secured an allocation of N46,371,646,360.60, accounting for approximately 10.2% of the total budget allocation.

Kagara revealed that out of the estimated total budget sum of N454,308,862,113.96, approximately 72.63% (N329,979,518,595.97) is designated for capital expenditure, while 27.37% (N124,329,343,517.99) is allocated for recurrent expenditure.
