Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has commenced the payment of over N6 billion in outstanding gratuities to pensioners.
The governor made this announcement during the inauguration of the payment process for select categories of retirees at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
Governor Yusuf acknowledged that his administration inherited a significant backlog of pension arrears and benefits, lamenting that many pensioners had passed away without receiving their rightful payments.
He stated, “As you are aware, the previous administration neglected various sectors during their eight-year tenure, including the illegal deductions of monthly pensions. During our campaign, we promised to settle pension gratuities and put an end to these deductions if given the opportunity. Today, we are fulfilling our promise despite the competing demands.”
Governor Yusuf assured that the payment process would continue, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to clearing the total backlog of over N48 billion in pension and gratuity arrears in the near future.
He urged the beneficiaries to utilize their benefits wisely, recognizing the significance of these payments in improving their livelihoods.
