Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shared her personal experience of being married to her ex-husband, who is also the father of her two children.
During a podcast interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, the mother of two revealed that she encountered poverty for the first time in her life after marrying her ex-husband.
Iyabo Ojo advised people not to feel offended when wealthy individuals fail to understand the struggles faced by the poor, as she herself had once been in that situation.
She explained that prior to her marriage, she had been born into wealth and had enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle in Obanikoro, where electricity supply was stable. Additionally, she had a personal driver who would take her to school, and she had over N100,000 in her bank account.
Iyabo Ojo also mentioned that her grandmother had been one of the wealthiest women of her time, which shielded her from experiencing poverty until she entered into marriage.
She described her time with her ex-husband as an adventure, as she was seeking attention, which he provided to her during that period.
“Unknown to many, the lavish lifestyle actress Iyabo Ojo lives did not come after she found fame in Nollywood.
A guest on Toke Makinwa’s podcast, the mum of two, revealed she grew up in wealth and had no idea the struggles people around her were having.
Iyabo disclosed she had a driver taking her to school, didn’t know NEPA used to seize power, and had a trust fund set up for her by her grandfather when she clocked 18.
The actress added that her grandmother was one of the wealthiest women of her time, and the first time she experienced poverty was with her ex-husband.
Initially, living that life with her ex was fun, and because she had lived in wealth, she saw it as an adventure. Iyabo also urged people not to blame the rich when they don’t understand the problems of the poør, as she had no idea ‘face me, I face you’ houses existed until she got married”.
