The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has praised the officer in charge of the police tactical team attached to Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, SP Rilwan Kasumu, and his team for their refusal to accept a bribe of N4 million while investigating a case of drug peddling and unlawful possession of ammunition.

In an announcement made by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on his official social media account, it was revealed that the team apprehended one Esther Newman Obiekezie, also known as Candy, at her residence on 6th February 2024. She was involved in the illicit drug trade, specifically selling a substance known as ice. The team recovered a significant quantity of the illicit substance, as well as AK-47 live ammunition.

During the course of the investigation, two individuals named Akete Esther and Oke Okebalam from Ajamgbadi Lagos visited the Ijanikin station to request the release of Esther, the drug peddler. They offered a bribe of N4 million and pleaded for the police to cease their disruption of the illegal drug trade.

The police officer, disapproving of the bribe, confiscated the cash and marked it as evidence. The duo was arrested for further investigation and prosecution.

The IGP emphasized the commitment of the police force to utilize all available means and employ professional anti-crime strategies to combat various forms of criminal activities in Nigeria.
