The anti-fuel and naira scarcity protest in Ibadan, Nigeria turned violent on its second day after a person was shot dead by security forces. According to the police in Ibadan, some hoodlums had attacked the security personnel who were on patrol around the Apata Junction Market.

The police in Oyo and Kwara states received intelligence that some individuals were planning to attack banks and public facilities due to the fuel and naira scarcity. The security forces in Ibadan were patrolling to maintain peace after protests broke out in parts of the city on Friday. The hoodlums, who were said to have been planning to attack residents, harass shop owners, and loot shops, began firing guns and throwing stones and other dangerous objects at the security patrol when they spotted the security forces. The security forces used reasonable force in line with standard procedure to arrest the situation and prevent further casualties.

The police spokesman confirmed the incident and stated that the police were committed to maintaining peace in the state. Normalcy has since returned to the area with a heavy deployment of patrol teams.
