Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has given his approval for the construction of a four-kilometre road network at the Federal Polytechnic in Monguno.

Additionally, he has ordered the allocation of a building owned by the Borno State Government to be used as a hostel by the polytechnic.

Governor Zulum directed that the road construction be carried out in phases, with the first phase scheduled to commence in January 2024. The directive was issued during his visit to the permanent site of the polytechnic, currently under construction in Monguno town.

Expressing his observations and concerns about the lack of a road network, Zulum assured that the Borno State Government would undertake the construction of a four-kilometre road network in phases, with the first phase starting early next year.

Governor Zulum commended the management of the polytechnic for their dedication in ensuring the completion of the ongoing work at the permanent site. He reassured them of the continuous support from the state government.

Previously, the Borno State Government had approved an intervention package worth N100 million for the polytechnic, which included expansion works at the current temporary site, provision of furniture, and housing accommodations for the principal officers. In 2021, Zulum released N50 million as a take-off grant to assist the polytechnic in commencing academic activities.

Governor Zulum has been actively providing support to federal institutions operating in Borno State since 2019. This support includes interventions such as housing and laboratory facilities for the University of Maiduguri and UMTH, the release of N50 million and construction of staff houses for the Nigerian Army University in Biu, and the allocation of a temporary site for the Federal College of Education in Gwoza, among others.

In addition to the developments at the Federal Polytechnic Monguno, Governor Zulum has approved the release of N20 million to the Specialist Hospital in Monguno to address immediate needs. Furthermore, he has ordered an incentive package to be distributed to all staff members who were present at the time of his visit in order to motivate them. Senior staff members will receive N100,000 and food items each, while junior staff members will receive N50,000 and food items each.

In 2019, Governor Zulum announced the upgrade of Monguno Hospital to specialist status, along with Biu General Hospital, in order to provide specialized medical services to the growing population.
