During an operational visit to the Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, in Maiduguri, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State announced that approximately 160,000 Boko Haram insurgents and their families have surrendered.

He attributed their surrender to the non-kinetic efforts of the Nigerian Military.

Governor Zulum also emphasized the importance of support from the military in terms of manpower development. This support would enable the state to effectively combat the proliferation of small arms and light weapons across borders.

The governor highlighted the significance of security in the northeast region due to its porous borders with Niger, Cameroon, and Chad Republics. He stressed the need to prevent the establishment of safe havens for ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) in the northeast, as the Sahel region is currently facing significant challenges.

Governor Zulum’s remarks underscore the progress made in countering Boko Haram insurgency through military efforts and encourage ongoing collaboration to maintain stability and security in the country.
