Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially announced the state’s support for Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives, aligning with the preferred choices of the All Progressives Congress.
The declaration was made during a meeting between Governor Fubara and the elected National Assembly members from Rivers State at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The governor emphasized that the decision to support these candidates is in the best interest of Nigeria.
The 10th National Assembly is set to be inaugurated on June 13, 2023, under the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Governor Fubara’s statement regarding Rivers’ endorsement of Akpabio and Abbas aims to ensure that the elected representatives from the state remain focused on electing the preferred choices and work together as a united team to achieve the desired impact. The governor also reassured the lawmakers of the state government’s ongoing support to help them remain influential in national affairs.
Senator Barry Mpigi, representing the Rivers South-east Senatorial District, expressed gratitude on behalf of the members-elect for the strategic meeting with Governor Fubara. He assured the governor that the elected representatives would work in accordance with his guidance as the leader of the state.
