Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has made a resolute promise that cabinet members who allegedly betrayed him during the November 11 governorship election in the state will face consequences for their actions.
The Governor accused certain members of his cabinet of betrayal both prior to and during the election. During a closed-door meeting with stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja, Bello expressed visible anger and asserted that he would not hesitate to take action against those hindering his progress.
Bello specifically pointed out that many of his allies betrayed him due to his choice of Usman Ododo as his successor. Ododo emerged as the winner of the governorship election, surpassing challenges from Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Muri Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The Governor used unprintable words to describe some of these alleged allies, accusing them of selling him out. He voiced his disappointment, stating that these individuals turned against him despite everything he had done for them.
“They said if it can’t be me, then it can’t be Ododo. They were busy conniving and conspiring with the opposition. They call themselves leaders, but were misleading the people. Shame on you all,” Bello expressed.
Furthermore, Bello issued a stern warning that any leaders who threatened their subordinates would face severe consequences. He directly addressed a Senator from the state, accusing him of being “wrecked” by his own brothers before the Governor allegedly revived him from financial bankruptcy. Bello accused the Senator of sending opposition messages to hinder their party’s success in certain local governments.
Governor Bello’s determination to hold accountable those he believes betrayed him demonstrates his strong stance on loyalty and the consequences for disloyalty within his administration.
