Government of Anambra State Joins Forces with Organization to Eradicate Child Labor

The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the BeeCee Outlook Foundation, organized a road walk named “Walk against Child Labour” to address the growing problem of child labor in the state.

The event commenced at Aroma Junction in Awka, passed through Amaku Teaching Hospital, and concluded at Eke Awka roundabout on Saturday.

Various individuals and groups actively participated in the walk, including security agents, market women, and members of the Ministry of Women Affairs. They distributed flyers to the public and provided awareness about the importance of eradicating child labor.

During a speech delivered at the Eke Awka Roundabout, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, cautioned parents and guardians against involving children in begging and other forms of labor.

Obinabo said, “Anyone engaging in such act of child labour and other related offences would be severely punished and taken to court.

“Members of the public should not delay in reporting anyone seen abusing any child in the state as that would help in reducing child labour to the barest minimum.”

In a separate statement, Sir Paul Nwosu, the Information Commissioner, emphasized the collective responsibility of all residents in tackling child labor within the state.

He expressed his concern over the mistreatment of children by women and sternly warned that anyone found engaging in such actions would face severe consequences. Nwosu’s firm stance serves as a reminder that the eradication of child labor requires the active participation and commitment of the entire community.
