General Officer Commanding (GOC) Urges Troops to Ensure Peaceful Election in Bayelsa

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, has emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for a peaceful election in Bayelsa State.

In a statement issued by Major Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division, Army Public Relations, the GOC addressed troops and members of other security agencies involved in the conduct of Exercise Safe Conduct 2023 in Bayelsa State.

Maj. Gen. Abdussalam stated, “We must ensure that everywhere is safe and people can witness our presence to enhance public confidence in the electoral process.”

He emphasized that the troops have received comprehensive briefings on the code of conduct and rules of engagement for the elections. It was also stressed that they must maintain the highest level of professionalism before, during, and after the election.

Furthermore, the GOC made it clear that security agencies would take decisive action against any individual or group involved in acts of violence or attempting to snatch ballot boxes during the elections. He stated, “The era of ballot box snatching, stuffing, and any form of electoral violence is over.”

According to him, adequate measures have been put in place to effectively counter such threats.
