The Federal Government is set to commence the trial of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, today on charges related to alleged economic sabotage.
Emefiele, whose trial was previously postponed, will now be arraigned at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to a notice seen by Vistanaij Media, the ex-CBN Governor will stand trial alongside one Ramalan Yaro.
A registrar from the court, who requested anonymity, confirmed that Emefiele would be brought before the court this morning to enter his plea of guilty or not guilty.
Maxwell Opara, one of the lawyers on Emefiele’s defense team, also confirmed that the notice of arraignment had been served to the former CBN Governor, requiring his presence in court.
Emefiele will be accompanied to court by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Matthew Burkaa, who provided an undertaking to ensure his appearance during trial. This undertaking was granted by Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi of the FCT High Court while granting bail to Emefiele.
