Dr Suzie Zaky, a lecturer in the Department of Biology at Kaduna State University, has been awarded a post-doctoral scholarship by The World Academy of Science (TWAS). The scholarship will enable her to conduct a research study on water quality monitoring using algae. The announcement was made in a statement released by Mr Adamu Bargo, the Public Relation Officer of the university.

The research will focus on Plankton Morpho Physiological responses to stress factors in determining water quality. The study will last for nine months and will be carried out under the guidance of Prof. Maria Gutierrez of the National Institute of Limnology, Argentina, at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research.

The research aims to strengthen the capacity for sustainable and inclusive water management using bioremediation. This scholarship is a significant achievement for Dr Zaky and reflects her expertise in the field of biology. Her research could provide valuable insights into improving water quality monitoring and management, which is crucial for sustainable development.

“Dr. Zaky is an ecologist with expertise in water quality monitoring. The research will contribute significantly to the field of water quality management.”

According to the university spokesperson, WAS, located in Trieste, Italy, is committed to promoting scientific and engineering research for sustainable development in developing countries. The spokesperson also noted that applicants must possess a PhD to be eligible for the scholarship. The selection process is highly competitive and based on merit.
