Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis has so far been the best acquisition in the Premier League for the 2021/22 season, according to statistics The Punch Sports Extra.

The Nigerian joined Watford for a modest fee of £3.4m from Club Brugge, but has lit the EPL with his outstanding performances for the Hornets, unlike other players who joined the league for far bigger transfer fees.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Leicester City are some sides to have felt his force this season, with his return of seven goals and five assists only bettered by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

He has also been directly involved in nine of Watford’s last 12 Premier League goals.

The 24-year-old has fared better than some players who arrived in the summer in big-money moves.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea for £98m from Inter Milan while Jadon Sancho teamed up with Manchester United in a record deal £73m. Cristiano Ronaldo re-signed for the Red Devils in a deal worth £17.8m.

Leicester City’s Patson Daka and Jack Grealish of Manchester City were also signed for £30m and £100m respectively.

With three games to the half of the EPL season, only Ronaldo comes close to Dennis in terms of goals.

The Portuguese captain has scored seven goals just as Dennis, but the Eagles star has more assists.

Lukaku has scored three times for the Blues, while Daka has scored twice. Grealish and Sancho have scored once despite their huge valuations.

The former FC Koln player will be aiming to surpass his best-ever league tally on Wednesday when Watford face Burnely at Turf more in a league game.

His previous best-ever scoring season was in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns with Club Brugge where he found the back of the net seven times in 30 and 26 league games respectively.

However, his seventh goal in just 15 games for the Hornets means he’s has achieved the feat with fewer appearances.
