The Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) of the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti State has initiated legal action against Prophet Adegoke Jeremiah, also known as Billion Dollars Prophet, and the State Police Command.

The lawsuit is in response to alleged violations of the rights of Chef Dammy, with the DCR seeking compensation of N10 million for damages on behalf of Dammy.

Prophet Adegoke, who is the founder of Spirit Word Global Mission, an Ekiti-based church, reportedly sponsored Dammy’s attempt to break the record for the longest hours of cooking, previously held by Hilda Baci. However, a controversy arose between Dammy and her pastor in October, when the chef publicly called out Billion Dollars Prophet on social media, holding him accountable for any harm that may befall her.

In response, Adegoke’s legal representatives demanded a retraction of Dammy’s statements on social media and in two national newspapers, along with a payment of N22 million for defamation.

Further developments unfolded on November 23, 2023, when Chef Dammy was reportedly arrested by the police following a petition filed against her by Adegoke.

In the subsequent lawsuit filed by the DCR on November 24, Dammy was named as the applicant, while Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel (the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police), and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, were named as respondents. The lawsuit seeks a declaration that the ongoing harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor and the Nigerian Police violate Dammy’s fundamental human rights.
