The Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Sununu, has emphasized the need to eradicate discrimination against children with disabilities in public schools nationwide.

Speaking at an event commemorating the 2023 International Day for Persons with Disability in Abuja, Sununu urged all stakeholders to join forces in addressing the issue.

During the event, Dr. Clarence Ujam of the Ministry of Education represented the minister. He highlighted research findings that reveal how children with disabilities face rejection in public schools due to inadequate facilities and a lack of caregivers. Sununu emphasized the urgent need to put an end to this discrimination through the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders.

The minister also expressed concern over the denial of various rights, including education, that children with disabilities often experience. He called for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal number 4, which promotes inclusivity and provides opportunities for people living with disabilities.

Sununu’s remarks underscore the importance of creating an inclusive educational environment that caters to the needs of all children, regardless of their disabilities.
