On Tuesday morning, officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found themselves locked out of their office in Lagos by personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC, the DSS officers had erected barricades using armored personnel carriers to block the entrance.

The DSS officials were stationed at the EFCC office located on Awolowo Road in Ikoyi, Lagos during the incident.

The dispute between the two agencies stems from a disagreement over the ownership of the building.

In response to the incident, Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, stated that his agency did not barricade the EFCC office in Ikoyi. He clarified that the DSS is occupying its own facility, separate from the EFCC office.

“It is not correct that the DSS barricaded EFCC from entering its office. No, it is not true. The service is only occupying its own facility where it is carrying out its official and statutory responsibility,” Afunanya said in a statement.

“By the way, there is no controversy over No 15A Awolowo Road as being insinuated by the media. Did the EFCC tell you it is contesting the ownership of the building? I will be surprised if it is contesting the ownership.

“Awolowo Road was NSO headquarters. SSS/DSS started from there. It is a common knowledge. It is a historical fact.
