Renowned Nigerian singer, Rema, took a veiled swipe at his senior counterpart, Burna Boy, during the recently concluded Headies Awards.
A few days prior, Vistanaij Media reported that Burna Boy had stirred controversy with his remarks about Afrobeats in Nigeria. In an interview, the singer asserted that 90 percent of Afrobeat songs lack real-life experience and substance. According to him, many artists lack genuine life experiences, resulting in songs that lack depth.
Burna Boy explained that numerous songs merely focus on portraying a lavish lifestyle or having a great time, which does not necessarily reflect reality.
During his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony, Rema seized the opportunity to respond to Burna Boy’s disrespectful statement. He emphasized that regardless of the term Burna Boy chooses to describe Afrobeats, they will all converge at Afrobeats award shows.
“Be it Afro Rave or Afro anything. We go all jam for Afrobeats award”.
