The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has officially declared an end to the sit-at-home protests that have been observed in certain states within the South East region.
This sit-at-home order has been enforced by a faction of the secessionist group known as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in various South-Eastern states.
Lagbaja made this announcement during the opening of the Combined Second and Third Quarters COAS Conference on Tuesday in Abuja.
“We have equally heightened our efforts in containing criminalities perpetrated in the South East Region by the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network.
“Through Operation Udo Ka, our troops have, in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, put an end to the infamous sit-at-home order that has almost crippled socio-economic activities in the region,” he said.
Two years ago, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had proclaimed that every Monday should be observed as a sit-at-home day, with the condition that this practice would continue until their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was released from the custody of the Department of State Services.
