The Coalition of Civil Society Groups has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to promptly release the police investigation report regarding the alleged murder of Victor Obafaite and Jimoh Asimi.
Following the 2007 House of Representatives election in Kabba/Bunu LGA, Obafaite and Asimi tragically lost their lives. The convener of the coalition, Mr. Wisdom Chinedu, issued a statement in Abuja on Monday, urging IG Kayode Egbetokun to take action.
Chinedu emphasized the importance of transparency and requested that the IG direct the relevant authorities involved in the case to make their investigation reports public. He expressed doubts about the credibility of the previous committee and stressed the need to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two individuals.
Furthermore, Chinedu emphasized the significance of justice and called for the prompt arrest and prosecution of the alleged mastermind behind the attack on charges of murder. He demanded that all individuals, directly or indirectly responsible for the mayhem in 2007, face legal consequences.
Chinedu pointed out that there are witnesses who can testify against the perpetrators, and he highlighted the urgency of taking action, particularly in light of violent threats during the ongoing governorship election campaign. There have been allegations of known cultists being engaged to disrupt the election.
The coalition stressed the importance of upholding the democratic progress made since 1999 and urged the authorities to address this matter swiftly.
