CJN Ariwoola speaks on claims alleged Supreme Court controversy led to Tanko Muhammad’s resignation

The new Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has dismissed claims that controversy within the Supreme Court led to the resignation of his predecessor, Tanko Muhammad.

Muhammad said there is no controversy in the Supreme Court, stressing that they are one.

Buhari had sworn-in Ariwoola yesterday after Muhammad resigned on the ground of ill-health.

However, Ariwoola, while addressing State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, said: “There is no controversy in the Supreme Court. We are one with the Chief Justice.

“That’s why you heard the President say His Lordship is disengaging on the grounds of ill-health. No controversy, we’re one.”

On the welfare issues highlighted in the letter addressed to Tanko, Ariwoola said: “It was an internal memo of the court. It was not a petition. It was not a letter.”

When asked if those issues would be resolved under his leadership, he said: “Yeah, we’ve started resolving it.”
