Champions League last-16: Jamie Carragher – I would want Liverpool to play porto

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has picked his ideal opponent for Liverpool in the Champions League last-16.

Liverpool qualified for the Champions League round of 16 as Group A runners-up after beating Napoli at Anfield this week.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to face one of the other group winners, with the draw set to take place on Monday.

The Reds cannot be drawn against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea but could face the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Benfica or Porto in the Champions League last-16 next year.

However, Carragher wants Liverpool to meet Porto in the knockout stage.

“I would want Liverpool to play Porto,” Carragher said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“We have played them a few times in the past, and I think psychologically, we always seem to have the edge on them.

“I think Liverpool will be a difficult proposition for anybody after Christmas. They are not at the races right now, but I think we will see Liverpool back to their best.”
