The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has confirmed that despite the recent fire outbreak that affected a section of its building in Abuja, the visa application centres in Abuja and Lagos are still open to the public.
Mr. Demilade Kosemani, the Communications and Public Affairs Officer for the High Commission of Canada in Abuja, provided this clarification in a statement issued on Thursday. While expressing condolences for the loss of a colleague during the incident, Kosemani emphasized that the processing of applications by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) clients would continue.
He further stated that despite the suspension of operations at the High Commission of Canada in Abuja, the visa application centres in both Abuja and Lagos would remain operational. This ensures that individuals can still submit their visa applications and undergo the necessary procedures.
The fire incident at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja tragically resulted in the loss of two lives, including a local employee, and left two others injured. Global Affairs Canada, in a statement released on Monday, expressed its commitment to collaborating with local authorities to determine the cause of the explosion.
