Beef? Between Wizkid and Davido

-Real Source to Wizkid and Davido Beef since 2011 till Date
Davido and Wizkid are the biggest music artistes in Africa at the moment. With fans running into millions, sold-out shows across the world ,

choice automobiles, and state-of-the-art gadgets, the duo are living the life that many people can only dream of.
Another advantage that the duo have going for them is their relatively young age. Both in their twenties, they have both been enjoying the limelight for over five years now.
However, even though one would think that they are best of friends considering that they roll in the same circles; nothing can be farther from the truth. They can basically be referred to as the worst competitors in the music industry.
They started out as friends and as far back as 2011, they were often seen together. But immediately they started getting bigger, the gulf between them widened.
The latest squabble between the duo was ignited when a fan mentioned online that Wizkid had ‘unfollowed’ Davido on Instagram. Shortly after that, Davido also quit following the Pakurumo singer.
Not long after that, Wizkid tweeted, “The game is only for the real, catch up or stay local.” Fans of both artistes instantly insinuated that the tweet was an attack against Davido, who opted out of his international deal with Sony Music.
Industry pundits would recall that their relationship began to sour just before the 2012 Nigerian Entertainment Awards in New York. Even though it was not really known what transpired between them, they publicly made up at an EME concert in December 2012. But the reconciliation was short-lived.
Over the years, there have been several clashes and online wars between the duo. They occasionally seem to squash the beef but before one can say O.B.O, they resume throwing brickbats at each other.
Davido had said in an interview some years ago, “Since I came out, there has always been this comparison between me and Wizkid. But there’s room for everybody; we are not doing the same thing. Funny enough, we used to see each other around at clubs and backstage of events, and there was no problem at all. I’ve always been a good fan of his (because) he makes good music. It all started with a flight to New York.”
Meanwhile, Wizkid had also said in a radio interview, “Davido dislikes my success but I am way beyond such childish games.”
Knowing the root cause of their persistent clashes would not take a rocket scientist to decipher. Both artistes are usually compared to each other, and whatever Davido does has a way of impacting on Wizkid, and vice versa.
Unfortunately, these skirmishes aren’t doing both artistes any good, as they are likely to achieve more if they are united. Contrary to what some people may think, artistes do not have to wage war against one another to be relevant.
One of the most successful artistes of this new era, 2face Idibia, is not known to have antagonised any other artiste, yet he is reckoned with all over the globe.
Two of the country’s biggest rappers, Olamide and Phyno, are practically best friends. Yet, they sell a very high amount of records, and host sold-out shows in stadiums.
Wizkid’s and Davido’s handlers have a lot of work to do. They should, as a matter of urgency, call their artistes to order and squash this beef once and for all. They don’t necessarily have to be friends but they shouldn’t also be enemies. In the past, some of these celebrity battles have led to violence, think 2pac and Notorious B.I.G; Ruggedman and Eedris Abdulkareem, among many others.
One of the greatest problems in Nigeria is the culture of violence in politics; this shouldn’t be allowed to spiral into entertainment, which is one of the few things that unites all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe and religion.
Besides, it is better imagined the amount of cash and buzz a Wizkid and Davido joint album would generate. Entertainment is not about making enemies, it is about doing business and making money. That’s why it is called showbiz.
