Daniel Bwala, a former aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has outlined six lessons he believes the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, might have learned from his recent clash with ministry workers.
Bwala stated that Umahi must have realized that dictatorial governors are a problem in Nigeria.
He also suggested that Umahi might have learned that Nigerians are growing weary of arbitrary behavior from their leaders. The controversy arose when Umahi prevented some ministry staff from entering the office due to their late arrival.
In response to these events, Bwala indicated that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, could be the next to face similar protests. Bwala’s remarks were made in a tweet where he emphasized that dictatorial governors are an issue in Nigeria, and governance should be guided by established rules and regulations, not personal whims. He also highlighted the distinction between individual states and the federal government and noted growing discontent with arbitrary behavior in leadership, even among civilian leaders.
Bwala further suggested that ex-governors appointed as ministers might encounter protests and resistance in their roles.
