ASUU Joins NLC and TUC in Declaring Nationwide Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has decided to join the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

In a circular addressed to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, signed by Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of the Union, ASUU instructed its members to participate in the strike starting from midnight on Monday.

“As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of NLC to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and the leadership of the union. Zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons should immediately mobilise our members to participate in the action,” the circular stated.

Earlier, the NLC and TUC had written to their affiliates, instructing them to commence the planned nationwide strike, which was scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday.

The strike is a response to the recent alleged assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero by the Nigerian police and the Imo State government, as previously reported by Vistanaij Media.
