The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 8, Babatunde Ishola, has emphasised the need for cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and other sister agencies.
AIG Ishola conveyed this message during an interaction at the Force headquarters in Lokoja, involving the rank and file, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and various stakeholders.
The meeting was convened with the aim of strategizing for a more robust policing approach in Kogi State, especially with the upcoming gubernatorial election on the horizon. AIG Ishola highlighted the importance of addressing the high rate of incivility displayed by police officers towards the public to foster better collaboration in combating crime.
AIG Ishola urged the State Commissioner of Police to ensure that those involved in the gubernatorial election are thoroughly briefed on the rules and regulations governing their conduct. He stressed their obligation to remain impartial while carrying out their official duties.
Recognizing the challenges faced by the state police command, AIG Ishola assured that the relevant authorities would intervene to enhance the proactive and effective approach of the police in addressing criminal activities. In his opening remarks, Commissioner of Police Berthrand Onuoha noted that the AIG’s duty tour provided an opportunity for the Command to interact with key stakeholders, including the rank and file and the PCRC.
CP Onuoha highlighted that the state police command had been actively collaborating with communities and vigilante groups, employing both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to reduce crime across the State.
Members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) also addressed the gathering, urging the police to adopt a more courteous approach towards the public. They emphasized the importance of increased synergy among relevant stakeholders in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the state.
