Arrival in Lagos: 108 Nigerians Stranded in Libya Finally Return

NEMA, the National Emergency Management Agency, has welcomed a fresh group of 108 stranded Nigerians returning from Tripoli, Libya.

These individuals were provided assistance to come back to the country through the special intervention of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). They arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Ikeja, aboard an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the registration number 5A-DMG.

Among the returnees were 46 adult females, two female children, and one female infant. Additionally, the group included 52 adult males, four male children, and four male infants.

The Director-General of the agency, Mustapha Ahmed, expressed the new administration’s commitment to addressing the country’s challenges and implementing measures to bring about positive development in the national economy. During the reception of the voluntary assisted returnees, Ahmed, who was represented by Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, reiterated the government’s determination in this regard.

Alhaji Habib-Ahmed, in addition, conveyed the President’s assurance that the administration would not neglect the youth but rather embrace their energy and technological skills. Recognizing that the youth play a crucial role in advancing any progressive society, the President aims to incorporate their talents and capabilities into the governance of the nation.

The President is committed to formulating a policy that encourages the active involvement of youths and women in the implementation of all policies. Recognizing the significance of the largest segment of the population, the leadership of the nation will prioritize the engagement of youths in decision-making processes within the current administration.

“The youths will be the driving force of all decisions in the current administration because of the importance that the leadership of this nation has placed on tapping the potential abound in the largest segment of the population.” 

He encouraged the returning individuals to embrace the chance they had been given to come back to their home country and to serve as ambassadors of hope and positivity for other young people who are considering traveling abroad.

“The green pastures are here, let us tend the pastures to maturity, so that benefits can be everlasting,” he said.

In addition to NEMA, several other agencies were present to welcome the returning individuals. These included the National Commission for Refugees, Migration and Internally Displaced Persons, the Federal Ministry of Health, Port Health, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Police.
