The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the legitimacy of Nasir Idris’ election as the duly elected governor of Kebbi State, which took place on March 18.

The court, in a judgment delivered on Friday, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, General Aminu Bande, on the grounds of lacking merit.

Justice Ndukwe Anyanwu, delivering a unanimous judgment, ruled in favor of the governor on all five issues raised for determination, rejecting the PDP’s claims. The court found that the allegations of testimonial forgery against the Deputy Governor of the State, Abubakar Umar Tafida, were not substantiated according to the law.

Furthermore, Justice Anyanwu stated that the allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act in the conduct of the election could not hold, as the appellants failed to demonstrate how these allegations significantly affected the outcome of the election.

Consequently, Justice Anyanwu affirmed the judgment of the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which had previously dismissed the PDP’s petition and upheld the governor’s election.
