The Elders Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has strongly criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan for his comment suggesting that he would have relocated his mother to Abuja if the APC had emerged victorious in the recently concluded election.
Jonathan, during a congratulatory visit to Governor Douye Diri, expressed concerns about potential security issues in the state had Diri failed to win the poll.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Clarkson Ayebaepreye, the elders’ council condemned Jonathan’s remark, describing him as someone experiencing “political midlife crises.”
The council questioned the extent to which Jonathan, as a former President, would go to satisfy his paymaster, who should be his subordinate.
The APC elders reminded Jonathan that the people of Bayelsa had experienced economic and physical violence during the past three years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government.
They criticized Jonathan for aiding and abetting violence and incompetence in the state to further his own political ambitions, despite presenting himself as a statesman.
The elders highlighted Jonathan’s clear animosity towards the APC and accused him of engaging in inconsistent political alignments and maneuvers.
They urged Jonathan to respect the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and criticized his willingness to be used as a puppet by a state governor.
The statement concluded by expressing disappointment in Jonathan’s actions, particularly his endorsement of Governor Diri and the PDP shortly before the Bayelsa State Gubernatorial elections.
