Anton Charles Walkes was an English professional football player who played defense or midfield. He was born on February 8, 1997, and died on January 18, 2023.

Walkes began his club career with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He played for the team once in the League Cup. He was loaned to Atlanta United in 2017. The loan was extended until the end of the 2017 season in August. Then, Walkes was loaned to League One club Portsmouth, where he played the rest of the 2017–18 season and was signed permanently by Portsmouth in July 2018. He played for Portsmouth for two more seasons and won the EFL Trophy in 2019. In January 2020, he went back to Atlanta United. In 2022, Charlotte FC signed him, and he stayed there until he died a year later.

Career

Anton began his playing career as a child with Tottenham Hotspur. Before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2015, he was in the club’s academy for a few years. In 2016, he played his first game for Tottenham’s first team against Gillingham in the Europa League.

Anton Walkes agreed to play for Atlanta United on loan in 2017 by signing a contract with them in 2016. He played for Atlanta United 14 times in 2017 and made his club debut in March of that year. Anton was a key member of the team that won the Supporters’ Shield, the U.S. Open Cup, and the Campeones Cup. He went back to Tottenham in 2018.

Anton Walkes joined Portsmouth on loan in January 2019. In the summer of the same year, his loan became permanent. Walkes was a key player and a fan favorite at Portsmouth because he was flexible, worked hard, and was athletic. He was an important part of the team that won the League One title in 2019–20.

Anton was picked by Charlotte FC in the MLS Expansion Draft on December 14, 2021. In the first season for the team, he started 21 of the 23 games he played in.

Cause Of Death

Anton was in Miami on January 18, 2023. This was where Charlotte FC’s 12-day training camp was being held. Around 3 p.m. Eastern Time, two boats hit each other near Miami Marine Stadium, and he was hurt. He was taken to the hospital right away, but the next day, at age 25, he died there from his injuries. Charlotte FC, his MLS team, said this in a statement that was shared on social media.
