In light of the prevailing hardships in Nigeria, prominent human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the suspension of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP).

Adeyanju emphasized the gravity of the situation faced by Nigerians, as evidenced by recent protests in Niger, Kano, and Kogi states. He called for urgent and decisive action from Tinubu to address the pressing issues.

The suspension of all administered programmes by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) was initiated due to allegations of financial fraud involving Halima Shehu, the CEO of NSIPA.

However, Adeyanju warned about the dire consequences of the continued suspension of these programs on the lives of ordinary citizens.

In a statement he issued, Adeyanju acknowledged the validity of Tinubu’s concerns regarding operational lapses and improprieties related to payments to program beneficiaries. Nevertheless, he appealed to Tinubu’s sense of duty and compassion for the suffering Nigerians.

Adeyanju urged Tinubu to reconsider the suspension of the national social investment programmes and take immediate steps to reinstate them, recognizing the urgent need to address hunger and the ongoing nationwide protests.

By reinstating the NSIP, Tinubu can demonstrate a commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians and provide them with essential support during these challenging times.
